At Buffalo Wings & Rings, we have something for everyone and that includes vegetarians, pecatarians, vegans, those on a keto diet, those who need gluten-free options, and those who are on a 1500 calorie meal plan. We don’t see dietary restrictions as an excuse for going bland. Instead, we put together some tips for how to add some of your favorite flavors into your next order while staying within a 1500 calorie diet.
Some of our favorite healthy options
Cauliflower wings. A great option for people who want the flavor of wings without all the calories, cauliflower wings seasoned with parmesan and garlic wing sauce are 421 calories. If you prefer them plain and vegan, that goes down to 206 calories.
Southwest chicken salad. At 514 calories before dressing, this salad is a hearty amount of food that fits perfectly into your 1500 calorie diet. Enjoy it topped with chicken tenders, cilantro, scallions avocado, tomatoes, and even some jalapenos to heat things up.
Southwestern veggie burger. This burger will keep you full for hours. With a healthy black bean patty, avocado slices, cucumber, cheese, tomatoes and lettuce on a brioche bun, it comes out to about 902 calories. Order it without the chipotle mayo to knock that number to just 804 calories to fit it into your 1500 calorie meal plan.
How can chicken wing calories fit into your 1500 calorie diet?
Whether you prefer ‘em grilled, fried or boneless, we pulled together three popular chicken wing combinations that will fit in your 1500 calorie meal plan. And because the calories are so low and you can’t have wings without something to cool it off, we included celery with ranch or bleu cheese into the calorie count.
Nice and mild. Five grilled boneless wings with lemon pepper dry rub along with some celery and ranch come out to 428 calories.
A classic choice. Five boneless fried Buffalo wings, medium heat, with celery and ranch will be 578 calories.
Heat it up. At 624 calories, you can enjoy five traditional chicken wings with buffalo sauce extra hot, along with celery and bleu cheese.
So, how many calories are in chicken wings?
Five traditional plain chicken wings have 260 calories. Five plain boneless chicken wings have 290 calories if you get them fried, and only 220 calories if you get them grilled.
Adding sauce won’t break your diet either. Five boneless wings coated with that mouth watering hot Buffalo sauce clocks in at around 370 calories — which, if you’re on a 1500 calorie meal plan, still leaves you with more than 1100 calories for the remainder of your other meals and snacks.
Grilling wings, as opposed to frying them, are typically a lower calorie choice. To make your meal even more nutritious, Chef Dan, head chef of Buffalo Wings & Rings, suggests ordering healthy sides like veggies instead of fries.
“We have steamed broccoli on the Buffalo Wings & Rings menu. It’s just straight-up steamed with no butter or anything added,” Chef Dan said. “If you order a couple sides of broccoli, it's good in a stir fry with your leftover boneless wings, too.”
Season it up
Buffalo Wings & Rings cajun dry seasoning will give you a much-needed spice kick, and the gluten-free lemon pepper dry seasoning tastes great on wings, especially when paired with a light salad. Plus, dry seasoning only adds a few calories to your meal.
If you prefer a flavorful wet sauce but still want to control your calories, Chef Dan suggests ordering it on the side.
“A lot of people order sauce on the side to control the sauce amount [and] use it as a dipping sauce,” Chef Dan said. “As a matter of fact, we introduced a sauce flight on the menu a couple months ago and it was so popular, we added it to our permanent menu.”
